On a Sunday

You guys! My mom and step-dad came to visit me in Portland! It was so amazing to see them today & they are here until Wednesday. Ruby just adores them. I'm glad to be able to spend time with them and go out to places I normally wouldn't go. We were downtown this morning and I felt like such a tourist. I tend to stay in one area in Portland. I don't go downtown too often where most of the high rise buildings are. Even though some great things are down there, you have to a. pay to park b. find a parking spot c. pay to park. Can you tell that I hate to pay for parking? It's such a pain in the butt. Parking garages rip you off. BUT, for the limited time I spend down there, it is worth it. We had such a great breakfast at their hotel & walked around a little bit outside. Because Ruby isn't feeling well, we pretty much just hung out in the hotel room and enjoyed each others company.
Ruby was loving, ok, obsessed over this thing we saw while we were walking around. You can walk and jump on it (im sure you've seen one before at a mall) and every minute or so it would change. I think we stood there for like twenty minutes playing with it. I must say, we all got in on the action.

oh and ps. i love this picture of Ruby and papa, but i wish i had a better background! (bewbz)

What Ruby Eats

Untitled

typical Ruby toddler breakfast. eggs with spinach. chicken apple sausage. organic yogurt & organic cut banana.

When Ruby wakes up in the morning, within the first 10 minutes she always says the same thing, "tofu, eggs, sausage, waffles, toast."

Tofu-always first...then the others after.

8/52

Alright ladies and gents. Here's another weekly picture for you! I'm also in this picture! The rare occasion on the blog. This picture is ridiculously cute of Ruby. She's not a huge fan of fruit unless it's bananas. So I tried to trick her into thinking oranges are awesome. Did I do it?

& then she turned TWO.

Ruby is two. Ruby is two. Ruby is two. I just have to keep repeating that to myself in my head. To me, she doesn't seem any older than the day before her birthday. But I guess you have to put a number on it. I have to get used to not counting months, so when people ask me I don't say, oh, she's 23 months old. She is two. In 4 months, in 6 months, in 9 months, I will still be saying, she is two. (well, I guess I can put a half on it at some point). It's just crazy to me that she is at this milestone everyone said was going to be terrible. Terrible twos. I don't think there terrible one bit. I can't be corny though and call them terrific twos. Of course we can all be terrible at times - when we are kids - when we are adults that's kinda unacceptable. She has days where she's overtired, not feeling well, overstimulated. But I know that because she has a hard time communicating that I can't call her terrible for it.

Yesterday was her birthday. We celebrated by waking up to over a dozen balloons, presents set out like Christmas morning, and spending the day having fun. Even with her presents, I still think she liked her balloons the most. We spent the day at the Children's Museum and had a blast! I lost track of time and we were there for over four hours! I think I wore her out, she passed out in the car on the way home. Of course, I did have to stop for one big yummy cupcake.

This was the first time she has blown out a candle on her own. I wasn't sure if she could do it, but I think with all the bubble blowing practice she gets in the bath tub every night, she was able to do it! & over and over and over again. She kept on asking to blow it out again & I am a sucker and kept lighting it dozens of times. We also sang a few times...and then she sang...and then blew out again. I think by the time the whole ordeal was done, she wasn't even that into her cupcake. She took a big bite out of it and was done. She was practically begging to go to bed. My precious little sleepy TWO year old.

I'm looking forward to an amazing year of her being two. Because when she turns three, I will be bawling my eyes out. I hope this year doesn't fly by as fast as the last, but I'm sure it will.

these are a few of the pictures I took yesterday and put on instagram. I will upload my camera later when I'm not so busy chasing around my TWO year old!

7/52

She is just perfect. We are enjoying our time spent outdoors as the weather is starting to get a little nicer. Even with rain most days, there is always a period where it stops and we are able to take a walk. It's nice to get outside and feel the fresh air in my lungs and the coolness on my skin. Ruby likes it too. She likes to try and find cats, or see dogs through their fences in the neighboring yards. She says things like, "meow meow!" or "dog, shhh doggy". (which is a favorite of mine that my mom taught her with our family dog) "Shhh Daisy!" Makes me break out in laughter every time. We also like to spot birds that fly by, hear the passing trains only a quarter mile away from our house, and hear the planes coming in or departing. Makes me eager for springs official entrance.

We went to a great birthday party over the weekend for Ruby's two friends (joint party). That is where she obtained this lovely red balloon. It is definitely the little things in life that brings smiles to this girl. She keeps bringing it to me saying "Happy Birthday Mama". There has been lots of birthday talks lately, as her birthday is only TWO days away. Guys, I will have a two year old this week. Wow. Time really does go by so fast. I cherish each day, each moment, each phase (no matter how hard) and each special smile I get from her. It truly is amazing.

We have some serious birthday fun ahead of us this week.
